CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Hideki Hinata
Age: somewhere around 17 or 18 (a third year in high school)
Subject taught: None
Canon: Angel Beats (sorry for the general wiki page, the angel beats wiki is full of really bad grammar and false information to the point where it's unfollowable)
Canon point: Right after his "graduation" but before his reincarnation (end of the series)
Personality:
Before coming to the afterlife, Hinata was a very hopeful and athletic person, wanting so badly to play baseball and, it's implied, win a scholarship for his performance as a baseball player. He clinged to this dream so much that in the end he had nowhere to turn when suddenly this dream could not be realized. Loyal to his team and his coach's wisdom, and suddenly with none of his life left in tact, Hinata took his coach's suggestion and started using drugs as a means to cope. He gave into despair and his life tragically ended with absolutely no fulfillment or happiness.
When he enters the afterlife, however, with amnesia of his past, his true nature as a carefree, happy guy comes through, one who would do anything for his friends. He's especially close and loyal to Yuri, albeit the two are always joking around with one another and he's the one to nickname her "Yurippe" since Yuri was his mothers name, which he felt was too awkward. He's a bit of a jokester, teasing his friends for their quirky behavior or flirting with Yuri to make her feel shy or embarrassed. Even when he does remember his life before he died, Hinata views it with a coping heart. He is unable to accept it at first (because doing so would mean betraying Yuri and all that she's worked for) but hints that he would be able to live with his regrets when he explains them to Otonashi. By the end of the series he can accept his life and the afterlife so long as he was able to help his friends accept theirs.
While Hinata's loyalty and even want for protection for his friends was incredibly passionate almost to a fault when he first enters the afterlife, his friendship with Otonashi helps him to take a step back and realize how foolish he and he friends had been, and how their actions were actually hurting them in the end. When faced with this knowledge, that the Afterlife Battlefront was actually hurting themselves further by refusing to accept their regrets, Hinata immediately decides to remedy it and help his friends move on. Hinata even jumps in on Otonashi's attempt to help Yui find happiness and tells Yui that he would marry her, and that her life is full of hope and people who love her and care for her enough to make her happy. (While I like the pairing, the gesture as I interpreted it, considering their relationship had no prior romance in it and a rather rocky friendship, he was really just demonstrating to her that she could find love anywhere, and that nothing was hopeless, nor was she useless.)
He comes to the conclusion that maybe doing everything that his friends tell him to do for the sake of loyalty and protection isn't always what's right for them. Hinata would, in the end, betray his friends' judgement for the sake of helping them go down the right path and find real happiness.
Overall he has a big heart and his most endearing trait is that he is always trying to smile and make his friends smile as well. Smiles are infectious, after all. Even in their darkest moments, Hinata's bright smile is always there to lessen tension and give his friends immense hope. He would never again give in to the despair that he felt when he was alive.

A friend and I did this meme some time back between Hinata and Minako from Persona 3, which lead into a more recent musebox between the two of them.
